Florida Family Seeks Compensation After Space Junk from ISS Damages Home

A Florida family is seeking over $80,000 in compensation from NASA after a piece of metal trash from the International Space Station (ISS) tore through their home in Naples in March. The debris, a 1.6-pound cylindrical object from a cargo pallet, crashed through the roof, causing property damage and emotional distress.

The family's attorney, Mica Nguyen Worthy, emphasized the near-catastrophic nature of the incident and the potential precedent it could set for NASA’s liability in such cases. NASA has six months to respond under the Federal Torts Claim Act. No injuries were reported, but the incident highlights growing concerns about space debris.
